How To Buy Laudable Laptops

So you are looking to buy a laptop?
well don’t go in blind! Read this guide to help you decide which laptop is right for you!

First ask yourself: what do I want?

Do you need a family laptop? If so you'll need some super virus checkers thanks to little kiddies surfing the web. You should go for a medium size screen since you might be taking it in and out of rooms daily so that the kids can watch naruto and the adults go and actually work.

Maybe you a student in which case you probably just want a cheap laptop. Nothing fancy just something to surf, type and print things on.

Maybe you want a really portable because your always on the go! Something thin and light, that's right a lean mean number crunching machine.

Or maybe you just want entertainment, after all with a laptop you can surf the web, play games, play music, watch films, draw pictures, learn new things, skype, animate, design, customise and much more.

If none of the above match your needs don’t worry.

Next prioritise what you want it to do for me my priorities look something like this:

  • Internet
  • Word Processing
  • Animation (Blender, Scratch)
  • Video player
  • Image Editing
  • Easy To Use Interface
  • Cheap
  • Music Player
They are my needs then I thought about what I didn’t need
  • don't need touch screen
  • don't need apple design
  • don't need brand name speakers or anything
  • don't need to much memory since i have a hard drive
  • don't need a large screen
  • don’t need a battery since I’ll only use it in my office or in bed where I can plug it in
I bought my laptop for EUR150 pre-owned

Here are some possible priorities and recommendations for each category

Studen/El Cheapo
  •  Word Processing
  • Internet
  • Good Spell-checking software
  • Video player
  • Easy to use interface
Don’t need
  • Touch screen
  • Apple design
  • Great Graphics
  • Brand Name Speakers (or anything of that ilk)
  • Resolution

Now new you could buy a laptop like this for about 300 Euro.

You should look for a good battery life at least 5 hours.
Unless you have a hard-drive you should go for somewhere between 300-500Gb of storage space.
You should have at least 4gb of RAM too.
Windows would probably be the operating system you'd end up with, this is useful in as much as it is more well known and it'll be easier to get programs for it.

Family/the all-rounder

  • Internet (with all your flash plug ins for games and browsers other then internet explorer)
  • Video Player
  • Virus Checker (Try Kaspersky since you'll need a really good one)
  • Music Player
  • Word Processor
  • Drawing Software
You don’t need
  • Touch Screens
  • Long Battery Life
You'll need something durable for when your kids drop it also a good 500gb of memory. I'd recommend Ubuntu as an operating system simply because it is harder for kids to mess with.

Portable/On-the-go

  • Video Player
  • Music Player
  • Wifi compatibility
  • Word Processor
You don’t need
  • Lots of USB points
  • CD/DVD drive (well you might want it but it'll weigh it down.
All you need is a nice long battery life, don’t expect to much from your slim laptop but it'll serve you well anyway.

Entertainment

  • Video Player
  • Music Player
  • Graphics Card Galore
  • Internet
  • Games
  • Video Editing
  • Web Cam
  • High Resolution Display
You don’t need

  • You dont need it to be small
  • Battery Life: no matter how good will be eaten through by video/music so just plug it in.
With these machines you just look for the best; best sound, best visual, if you can go for a blue-ray drive. Personally I don’t recommend the 3D.

Now that you've read all that and you have your plan here are some laptops for you to check out
